Jason Collins, Joe Ponzio lead Girard win



YOUNGSTOWN -- Jason Collins and Joe Ponzio each had two hits as the Girard High baseball team defeated Liberty 8-4 Wednesday in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Ponzio doubled for the Indians, who have won 11 of their last 12 games
Steve Procner (5-1) gave up six hits and struck out six for the Indians (16-6, 8-5).
Rob Kay had three hits, including a homer, for Liberty (4-17, 3-10).
Canfield 7, Chaney 5: YOUNGSTOWN -- Canfield rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh inning behind Nick Guerrieri and Dan Zapko.
Zapko's infield single scored Mark Awad to tie the score at 5, before Guerrieri delivered the game-winning hit with a bases-loaded single that drove in two runs.
Dave Miller added two singles and one RBI for Canfield (16-9), while Chad Baker got the mound win in relief.
Charlie Jaminet led Chaney (10-10) with a triple, single and three RBIs.
Niles 18, Poland 10: NILES -- The contest produced 37 hits, including 22 by Niles.
P.J. Rishel hit a home run, two doubles, two singles, drove in four runs and scored four times for the Red Dragons (11-11, 7-3 Metro Athletic Conference).
Matt Baritell added four singles with two RBIs and he scored twice. Sam Gatta hit three singles, drove in two runs and scored three times.
Shane Davis led the Bulldogs (13-7, 7-3) with three doubles and a single and he drove in four runs and scored twice.
