MICHAEL CAPELLAS Profile

A profile of Michael Capellas, president and chief executive of Compaq Computer Corp. and a Valley native:
Born and raised in Warren, he graduated in 1972 from Warren Harding High School.
Graduated from Kent State University in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in accounting.
Joined Republic Steel Corp., now WCI Steel Inc. in Warren, and held various systems analyst positions.
Hired at Schlumberger LTD, an oil field services company, in 1981. Stayed for 15 years in a variety of positions, including the company's first director of information.
Joined Oracle Corp. in 1996 as senior vice-president and general manager in Houston.
Joined Compaq Computer Corp. in 1998 as chief information officer, promoted in 1999 to chief executive officer and, in 2000, named chairman of the board.
Capellas and his wife, Marie, a Youngstown native, live in Houston with their two children.
