REV. JOHN D. YCOBACK, 67 Was longtime pastor of St. Mary's Church
Father Ycoback helped expand the properties of the church.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rev. John D. Ycoback, longtime pastor of St. Mary's Church here, died Friday at Forum Health Northside Medical Center after a long illness. He was 67.
Father Ycoback was born April 24, 1934, in Spangler, Pa., a son of the late Andrew and Helen Banchansky Ycoback.
In 1956, he was awarded a bachelor of arts degree from Duquesne University. In 1960, he completed his studies at the Byzantine Catholic Seminary of Sts. Cyril & amp; Methodius in Pittsburgh.
On April 23, 1960, he was ordained to the priesthood. Father Ycoback served as an assistant pastor at St. Mary's Church in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., from 1960 until 1963, when he was named pastor of St. Mary's Church, where he served as pastor until his death.
Accomplishments: Gifted with a keen business sense, Father Ycoback expanded the parish properties and managed the local parochial school. Under his leadership, a rectory and The Assumption Social Center were built. He also served as treasurer and administrator for the Byzantine Catholic Central School in Youngstown until his death.
Father Ycoback also served the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh as a member of the building commission, a member of the presbyteral council and an archieparchial consultor.
Three sisters survive him: Ethel DeSalvo of Carrolltown, Pa., Nancy Domalik of Hastings, Pa., and Carol Miller of Patton, Pa. A sister, Margaret, preceded him in death.
Services: Services will be at 7 p.m. today at the church. A Panachida Service will be at 5 p.m. today at St. John the Baptist Church, North Cambria, Pa.
