Hubbard blanks Villa Marie Academy

HUBBARD -- Mary Newberry scored from 8 yards out with about 30 minutes remaining as Hubbard High defeated Villa Marie Academy 1-0 Saturday. Anna DeJulio got the assist. Hubbard (13-1-1) has won 12 in a row. The Victors are 10-5.
Lynell Cornell had six saves in goal for the Eagles.
Boys: CANFIELD -- Junior Matt Pietro scored with two minutes remaining in the game with an assist from senior Mark Pakula to give Canfield (7-4-3) a 1-0 victory over Niles and the Metro Athletic Conference championship outright with a 6-0-2 record.
Canfield goalie Mark Kime, a senior, made seven saves to preserve the shutout while Niles keeper Brett Gatta had six saves. The Cardinals out-shot the Red Dragons, 24-10.
Walsh Jesuit 6, Fitch 1: CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Fitch was shut out until 5:20 remained in the game when junior Sam Camens got an assist from sophomore Chris Frazzini against Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit (14-0-2) Saturday night. Senior goalie Brett Gleydura made six saves for Fitch (9-5-1).
