SHORT-TERM OPPORTUNITIES
First Night Youngstown: Volunteers are needed to assist with various activities including transportation, check-in service and food sales on Dec. 31. More details will be announced later.
Make A Difference Day: People are needed on Oct. 27 to drop off holiday meats (turkey, ham and chicken) to Second Harvest Foodbank, 1122 E. Midlothian Blvd., from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Ronald McDonald House: People are needed to assist with general maintenance of the yard and the home's interior. Some painting and wall washing is required. The home is located on Goleta Avenue near Forum Health Tod Children's Hospital.
CAN YOU HELP?
Volunteer help also is needed for these agencies:
Angels For Animals: People are needed to help care for animals at the Green Valley Drive facility in Green Township. Responsibilities include cleaning kennels, sweeping and filing. A regular two- to three-hour shift is required and scheduled according to volunteer availability.
Associated Neighborhood Center: People are needed to assist schoolchildren in kindergarten through second grade with reading assignments and comprehension skills.
Boys and Girls Club: Volunteers are needed to assist staff with educational and athletic programs. People also may be asked to perform receptionist and clerical duties.
Goodwill Industries: Volunteers are needed to perform vision testing on 4- and 5-year-old children in area preschools and day-care centers. Training is provided and days and times are flexible.
Mahoning County Council for Retarded Citizens: People are needed to assist at monthly dances and bingo.
Neighborhood Ministries: Volunteers are needed to assist instructors with tutoring children in kindergarten through sixth grades in all academic areas.
Paisley House: People are needed to assist in weekday, Saturday afternoon or evening activities, which may include bingo, cards, crafts, board games and light exercise. Volunteers may also play organ or piano for Sunday afternoon hymns and songs.
Park Vista: Activity and medical escorts are needed to assist with paperwork for health-care appointments and to help walk or push residents to the health-care lobby and assist with outings. Hours are flexible, but usually 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
Volunteer Service to Seniors: Volunteers are needed for telephone reassurance, home visits and transportation for the elderly and disabled. Minor home repairs and lawn care help is also requested.
