C.H.A.I.N. Auction set as benefit for area pets

BOARDMAN -- The fourth annual Chinese auction to be sponsored by C.H.A.I.N. (Community Helping Animals in Need), a nonprofit organization, will be held Oct. 14 at St. Luke Church, 5235 South Ave.
Doors will open at 1 p.m., and the drawings will begin at 3 p.m. for more than 300 table prizes and 40 large stage prizes including such items as a 25-inch color television, a football autographed by Bernie Kosar and a set of tools.
Serving as hostess for the event will be Laura Steele, TV Channel 21 personality. Refreshments also will be served.
Proceeds from the event will provide C.H.A.I.N. with the opportunity to help control pet overpopulation by giving financial assistance to pet owners interested in having pets spayed or neutered at a discounted rate.
C.H.A.I.N. works with five area veterinarians throughout Trumbull and Mahoning counties and qualifies people for the service based on income, number of pets and the individual's particular financial situation.
By making spaying and neutering readily available to more people, the organization hopes to have fewer animals roaming the communities, in shelters or being euthanized.
