CAMPBELL -- Campbell Memorial High's football team scored 35 points in the second half and went on to defeat Marion Catholic 49-0 at John Knapick Field Saturday afternoon.
Five-foot-10 senior tailback Albert Holland rushed for 217 yards on 17 carries and scored two touchdowns, to lead the Red Devils (4-3).
Holland, who has a team-best 763 yards rushing this season, scored on runs of 11 and 17 yards. His last score culminated the opening drive of the second half, in which he carried three times for 65 yards. That put the Red Devils ahead 22-0.
"This is by far my biggest game and all the thanks for it goes to the people up front, because I just followed my blocks and the yardage was there," said Holland.
Holland didn't play much after that, but Campbell's scoring onslaught continued. The Red Devils scored 26 points in the third period.
Twins connect: Senior quarterback Mohamed Awad, who completed 6-of-11 for 41 yards, tossed scoring passes of 14 yards to Terrel Harris and 7 yards to Ali Awad, his twin. Sandwiched between those scores was a 19-yard TD run by freshman Tim Davis.
Davis ran for 102 yards on just four carries and completed the scoring with a 75-yard run along the right sideline. Those were the first two touchdowns of the 15-year old's varsity career. He also had five tackles on defense.
"I ran well because I had great blocking, especially on the long run, from Nick Zembillas," said Davis. "On defense I was able to get off the ball quick and get to people."
Another of Campbell Memorial's defensive standouts was 315-pound senior tackle Anthony Wright, who had nine tackles, including three quarterback sacks.
Wright, a three-year starter, said, "Today we picked things up defensively and I was able to use my quickness and hand technique taught to me by our defensive coordinator Mark Green to get to people."
Joe Jackson's 30-yard scoring run put Campbell Memorial ahead 8-0 in the first quarter.
Campbell coach John Ryan said, "After a big loss last week [54-0 to Mercyhurst Prep] we were able to have consistency on both sides of the ball and keep alive our playoff hopes."
Ninth-ranked: Campbell Memorial began the week rated ninth in Division V, Region 17.
Marion Catholic (0-7) had less than 100 yards of total offense had only one drive into Campbell territory, which came late in the final quarter.
Marion Catholic's coach, Skip Davis, said, "Campbell is a very solid football team. We hung with them early, but we didn't seem to be there at all in the second half."
