Zoning board turns down kennel permit
AUSTINTOWN -- A request for a permit that would have allowed a dog kennel to open on North Canfield-Niles Road has been turned down by the township board of zoning appeals.
Debra Griffing and Deborah Sabel, both of Youngstown, asked the board Thursday night for a conditional use permit to open the kennel at 140 N. Canfield-Niles Road. Griffing and Sabel were planning to construct an addition on the back of a house at 140 N. Canfield-Niles Road for the kennel.
Three local residents spoke against the kennel at Thursday's board meeting, arguing that it was not appropriate for the neighborhood. The board voted against granting the permit after hearing the arguments.
The board also rejected a request for a permit that would have allowed Countryside Motors, a used-car dealership at 4419 Kirk Road, to move to 136 N. Canfield-Niles Road. One local resident spoke against the plans for the dealership.
The board approved a request to expand Antone's Restaurant, at 4857 Mahoning Ave., and a request for a permit to open a used-car dealership at 1665 S. Raccoon Road.
