STRUTHERS -- The achievements of the Rev. Wyleeia McCray, a Cleveland native, will be celebrated at a dinner in her honor. In 1999, Bishop Henry A. Beelig of the North Ohio Annual Conference appointed her pastor of the St. John A.M.E. Church in Struthers, where she serves as senior pastor. She received her bachelor of science degree in elementary education from the University of Akron and was awarded her master's degree in education from Marygrove College in Detroit in July.
She teaches fifth grade at Joseph Landis School in Cleveland. The appreciation dinner, sponsored by the officers and members of St. John's, is set for Sunday after the services.
New executive director
CANTON -- Sister Edwardine Baznik, SJSM, has been appointed Executive Director of Catholic Charities of Stark County in Canton by Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, which was effective Monday. Catholic Charities of Stark County is an affiliate agency of the Diocese of Youngstown Catholic Charities Corp.
Since 1997, Sister Edwardine has served as program director for community-based, certified Catholic Charities Adult Day Service, where she developed and directed operations. Before joining Catholic Charities, Sister Edwardine served as administrator of St. Joseph Care Center in Louisville, Ohio, a 100-bed skilled nursing facility and 40-unit assisted-living residence.
Concert set at Packard
WARREN -- Alpha & amp; Omega Productions will present Gospel Concert 2001, featuring Luther Barnes and The Sunset Jubilaires of Rocky Mount, N.C., at 5 p.m. Oct. 20 at Packard Music Hall. Religion talks offered
CANFIELD -- The Adult Education Committee of St. Michael Parish will have a program on monotheistic religions. Each program will be at 7 p.m. The dates and speakers are: Oct. 15, Rabbi Simeon Kolko on Judaism; Oct. 22, the Rev. Pat Manning on Christianity; and Oct. 29, Dr. Mustansir Mir on Islam.
Prayer vigil for peace
FARRELL, Pa. -- The World Apostolate of Fatima, also known as The Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima, will hold a special prayer vigil at 3 p.m. Sunday in Our Lady of Fatima Church in remembrance of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the crash in Somerset County, Pa. The Apostolate will pray for the victims, living and dead, and their families, for the United States and for peace in the world.
Pianist to perform
GIRARD -- Dr. Will Tuttle, who uses piano music as part of his meditation education, will perform at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Unity Church Center. Afterward, he'll present a concert.
Evangelism conference
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Calvary Temple will present its ninth annual Conference on World Evangelism with international missionaries that include the Rev. Dick Christensen, Vietnam; the Rev. Ruben and Mado Fernandez, Spain; the Rev. Chris Smith, United Kingdom; the Rev. Doug and Ollie Park, Philippines; and the Rev. John Robles, Mexico.
