DISTRICT/PA. Warren JFK blanks Geneva at Memorial
The Eagles were rated No. 2 in Division V, Region 17.
GENEVA -- Warren JFK continued its pursuit for a state football playoff spot as it blanked Geneva 27-0 Friday night in a non-league encounter at Memorial Stadium.
Josh Cayson carried the football 17 times for 100 yards and he scored on a 5-yard run for the Eagles (7-0), who were rated No. 2 in Division V Region 17 of the computer survey and No. 6 in Div. V of the Associated Press poll.
The Eagles took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter as Alex Senk tallied on a 5-yard run. Russell Accordino made a place kick for the extra point and a 7-0 lead. In the second period, Senk scored on a 2-yard run and Cayson on his 5-yard touchdown to give the Eagles a 20-0 margin at intermission.
JFK gained 186 yards on the ground and 35 passing, compared to Geneva's (2-5) 116 rushing and 24 passing.
West Branch 12, Canton South 7: CANTON -- Tom Hinton ran 25 times for 125 yards as West Branch beat Canton South in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference game.
The Warriors (5-2, 4-1) took a 12-0 lead in the second quarter when Josh Scott found Drew Romigh for a 16-yard touchdown aerial and Ben Rycraft brought a fumble back 33 yards for another score. Canton South (3-4, 1-3) closed the gap with a short touchdown before the half.
Oak Glen 9, Beaver Local 7: NEWELL, W. Va. -- Beaver Local lost four turnovers including three fumbles as each team went to 4-3.
The Beavers took a 7-0 lead when Jordan Williams scored a 6-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Williams had 18 carries for 65 yards.
Beaver Local still clung to a 7-3 lead in the third when Ron Hebrock of the Golden Bears returned a fumble 50 yards for the game-winning score.
Beaver 26, Mohawk 12: BEAVER, Pa. -- Lance Fink had 15 carries for 63 yards and two touchdowns as Beaver (1-5) beat Mohawk.
Mitch Gasperoni had 15 carries for 78 yards and two touchdowns for Mohawk (3-3).
