HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER Walker's two goals power Mooney past JFK; Boardman, Niles also win



The girls teams from Poland, Canfield, Girard and Hubbard also posted victories.
WARREN -- Cardinal Mooney High, ranked third in this week's Division III state coaches poll, got two goals from Pat Walker in a 2-1 boys soccer win over 16th-ranked Warren JFK (7-5-1) on Thursday.
John DeCristofaro scored the Eagles' goal on an assist from Anthony Joseph.
Mooney (10-2) keeper Tim Reigrut had one save. Brian Wolnik and Stephen Orlosky combined for nine saves for JFK.
Boardman 4, Uniontown Lake 2: BOARDMAN -- Jaime Hay had three goals and Andrew Good scored a goal for Boardman.
Ryan Yosay had three assists while Joe Campesi and Good contributed assists for the Spartans (9-5-1). Joel Monaco made nine saves.
Niles 3, Ursuline 1: NILES -- Donny Eckrote scored two goals and Brad McFadden had two assists for Niles.
Tommy Clay scored the other goal for Niles (8-3-3). Brett Gatta made 12 saves in the win.
Ursuline (7-5-1) got a goal from Dan Frank, who added three saves. Ryan Coffey made four saves.
Girls: SALEM -- Four different players scored for Poland as the Bulldogs remained undefeated in the Metro Athletic Conference with a 4-0 win over Salem.
Britt Davis, Angela Cavalier, Tara McLarney and Natalie Ludt each scored for the Bulldogs.
McLarney, Cavalier, Laura Mauer and Mary Sutcliffe had assists and Landry Yankle had three saves for Poland (12-1-1, 8-0).
Matte Jane had 11 saves for Salem (0-9-3, 0-7-1).
Canfield 5, Fitch 0: CANFIELD -- Grazia Sorice scored a goal and added an assist for Canfield (5-7-1).
Erin McCullough, Julia Wilcox, Amy D'Amico, and Abby Ferko also scored for the Cardinals. Goalkeeper Callie Carrera made four saves.
Fitch goalkeeper Alison Chasko made 14 saves.
Girard 3, Badger 1: BADGER -- April Courtney and Jenny Sopkovich each scored a goal and had an assist.
Audra Ragozine scored a goal while Shannon Slezyak and Angela Dipiero combined for 10 saves for the Indians (6-8).
Jenny Place scored Badger's goal.
Hubbard 2, Liberty 1: LIBERTY -- Anna Dejulio and Krysteena Wylie scored for Hubbard.
Liberty had a 1-0 lead with a little more than 18 minutes remaining.
Jaime Rigney had an assist and Lynle Cornell had a save for Hubbard (12-1-1, 5-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
Amy Banner scored a goal and Cyndi Tochenhagen had an assist. Rachael Tharp had 18 saves for Liberty (5-6-3).
