Feeder cleaning set
A birdfeeder cleaning will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 13 at Wild Birds Unlimited, U.S. Route 224 in Boardman.
Cleaning will be done for a $2 donation to the Audubon Society of Mahoning Valley.

Land options OK'd
HARRISBURG -- The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners today unanimously approved 11 land options that will increase the State Game Lands system by more than 4,700 acres. The package included nearly 2,900 acres offered by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, and 1,334 acres offered by The Conservation Fund and includes a donation of 4.36 acres in Plain Grove Township, adjacent to State Game Lands 151 in Lawrence County.

Archery season open
COLUMBUS -- Approximately 155,000 bowhunters are expected to participate in the statewide archery deer hunting season that opened Saturday, according to wildlife experts with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources .
During last year's four-month archery season, bowhunters harvested a record 34,340 deer, up 17 percent from 1999's total of 29,319. The previous record harvest occurred in 1994 with 29,390 deer being taken.
Crossbow hunters totaled 19,945 of last year's kill and longbow hunters took 14,395 deer. Overall, archers accounted for 22.8 percent of 150,432 deer taken during Ohio's combined 2000 archery, primitive, and gun seasons.
CLUBS
$2,000 for attack fund
The Mahoning County Coonhunters Protective Association recently donated $2,000 from the club treasury to the fund for the family of deceased firefighters and police officers in New York City.
The club also issued a challenge to other area outdoor clubs to raise similar funds for the fund, which stemmed from the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center.
NRA banquet scheduled
The Mahoning Valley Friends of the NRA will hold its 2002 banquet on March 31 at the ITAM, South Meridian Road, Youngstown.

Goose hunt season
The dates for the split season in the Lake Erie Canada Goose Zone were not included in a story on the waterfowl season last week. In Ohio, the proposed goose season is October 20 through October 28, with a split season December 8 through January 2.
