Paving, restoration work planned for six state Route 82 bridges

BROOKFIELD -- The Ohio Department of Transportation plans to pave and restore six bridges on a half-mile stretch of state Route 82.
The project also includes fixing the bridge where state Route 82 meets state Route 62 in Masury and paving Route 62 underneath, said Stephen J. Orosz, an ODOT engineer.
"Most of the bridges have a lot of cracks, where there is seepage of salt," Orosz said. "Basically, they are in deteriorating condition and they had to be repaired before we had any severe problems with them."
The bridges all were built in 1957, when state Route 82 was completed, he said. The repairs, under consideration since 1992, are on the construction schedule for spring 2004, he said.
ODOT estimates the cost of the project to be $6 million, but that is likely to rise, he said. ODOT will pay for the repairs with federal funds.
In Brookfield, work will include repairing twin bridges over Norfolk and Southern railroad tracks, Albright-McKay Road and Little Yankee Creek, and resurfacing the entire roadway between them.
Crossovers will be used to maintain traffic during construction, he said.
