Patriotic concert slated
YOUNGSTOWN -- A free one-hour patriotic concert will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday in Youngstown State University's Beeghly Center. The concert, "From the Valley to the Victims: A Tribute to the Spirit of America," is sponsored by Clear Channel radio, WYTV Channel 33, which will televise it live without commercial interruption, and the university. Performing at the concert will be the YSU Concert Band, The Youngstown Connection singing group and the Warren Junior Military Band. Parking is free. Donations may be made at the door to a relief fund for victims of the Sept. 11 terrorism attack.
School supports victims
NORTH JACKSON -- Pupils and staff at Jackson-Milton Elementary School recently collected money to aid victims of the New York City and Washington, D.C. attacks. A total of $810 was raised for the American Red Cross. Pupils collected an additional $1,292.30 in pennies and other change in a firefighter's boot that will be sent to the New York Firefighters 911 Relief Fund.
Expert to help families
BOARDMAN -- Forum Health's Center for Behavioral Medicine will have a free community program, "Getting Back to the Routines in Our Lives in the Face of Terrorism," 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Georgetown, 5945 South Ave., Boardman. Dr. Roger Algaier, Forum Health psychiatrist, will speak about how families can adjust and return to their daily routines in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. Team aids Pentagon
CANFIELD -- The Canfield High School football team and football team alumni are collecting donations to benefit the survivors of the Sept. 11 attack on the Pentagon. Money collected by the team and alumni also will benefit the families of those killed in the attack. Donations are tax deductible.
Checks should be made out to "Pentagon Relief Fund" and sent to Assistant Coach Dick Duffett, Canfield High School, 100 Cardinal Drive, Canfield 44406.
Show to strike up unity
LIBERTY -- Some 500 pupils in grades five through 12 will sing Friday before the football game with Lakeview as part of an American unity show. Susan Boye, elementary vocal music teacher, took the idea to the newly organized Liberty Vocal Booster Club and Donna Popio, vocal teacher for the middle and high schools, who helped bring the show together. The music begins at 7 p.m., and spectators will be invited to join in.
