STEEL VALLEY CONFERENCE GIRLS SOCCER Bowlen's goal nets Fitch 3-2 win over Mooney
The Falcons scored their ninth victory with a 3-2 decision over Mooney.
STRUTHERS -- Freshman Jodi Bowlen scored two goals and Brittney Getz added the other goal, as Austintown Fitch High edged Mooney 3-2 Wednesday in a girls Steel Valley Conference match at the Valley Sports complex.
Bowlen scored the game-winner with 2:10 remaining for the Falcons (9-1-3, 3-1), who out-shot the Cardinals 23-6.
Mooney (8-4, 2-2) got both of its goals from Kelli Willis.
Fitch starts six freshmen.
Boardman 4, Salem 0
SALEM -- Janeen Masternick scored three goals for the Spartans (8-3-1). Maggie Mills added the other goal. Boardman had 28 shots on goal, compared to eight for Salem (1-11).
Liz Agnew, keeper for Boardman, had five saves. Amanda Thorne, the Quakers' goalkeeper, had 12 saves.
Badger 6, Maplewood 1
KINSMAN -- Cayla Arnold scored four goals and Tessa Bonar had two to lead Badger (4-5-1), while Julie Bresnahan had three assists, Shannon Sudon two and Hannah Miller one goal.
Goalie Liz Smith registered five saves.
For Maplewood (1-9), Kristen Brunstetter scored the goal, while Taran Malvaisia had an assist. Goalies Cathy Benton and Jessica Parris had 15 and 11 saves, respectively.
Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary 2, Warren JFK 0
AKRON -- Mia Wood and Christy Sullivan scored goals for St. V-M (6-3-2), but it was the overall play of Warren JFK freshman goalkeeper Jenna Gilmore that was impressive.
Gilmore made her first varsity start in place of the injured Michelle Rossio and recorded 11 saves for the Eagles (6-4-4).
Boys
STRUTHERS -- Kiki Willis scored two goals as Mooney blanked Hubbard 7-0 Wednesday at the Valley Sports complex.
Alex Simon, Kevin Miller, Mark Seddon, Chris Conese and Noah Brack added one goal apiece for the Cardinals (10-2).
Mooney goalkeeper Tim Reigrut earned the shutout, making four saves.
