WARREN -- Lou Cali, Warren JFK's soccer coach, didn't get much sleep before Tuesday's game with Chaney.
"I was an absolute nervous wreck before this game," said Cali, who was head coach at Chaney for the seven years before taking over at Warren JFK.
Three first-half goals from JFK senior captain Shawn Bean helped calm Cali's nerves as the Eagles beat Chaney 6-0.
Reunion: Several Chaney players embraced Cali before and after the game.
"I scheduled this game last year when I was still at Chaney, so this was tough emotionally for me because these Chaney players are still my kids, but the guys on my team are my kids now," Cali said.
Two minutes into the game, Bean booted a 25-yard free kick from the left side that caught the inside of the goal for a 1-0 lead.
Sophomore Quinn Macali had assists on Bean's other two goals, which came from the left side of the box.
"I knew their goal keeper was weaker on the left side and low, so I went for the post," Bean said. "Macali is playing real well and is definitely our best finisher now."
Sophomore Sal Coppola got another assist from Macali on JFK's other first-half goal.
JFK's hustling defense helped freshman goal keeper Brian Wolnik post his fourth shutout of the season.
Junior Ryan Marko and senior captain Anthony Joseph scored the last two goals for JFK (7-4-1).
Among the Eagles' defensive stars were senior defender Craig Rossi, also a team captain, and sophomore stopper Russell Accordino.
"We are playing well as a team and being supportive of each other and controlling the ball from the back, which takes a lot of pressure off of our goal keeper," Rossi said.
Goal patrol: Chaney had five shots and Wolnik had four saves, including a sensational stop of a Chaney penalty kick late in the second half.
& quot;I was afraid we might be looking ahead to our game with Mooney," Cali said. "But we really played well in the middle, with our kids having a great effort tonight. & quot;
The Cowboys are 4-5-2 in their first season under Jerry Meso.
& quot;We started without our starting goal keeper [Sabrina Crincic]," Meso said. "Once she came in, we had great play from her. & quot;
Crincic took over with the score at 3-0 and had 13 saves, many of them with sensational dives to both sides.
