Poland wraps up MAC soccer title
POLAND -- Taryn Carlson scored on a penalty kick with 2:48 remaining to give Poland a 2-1 victory over Canfield for the Metro Athletic Conference girls soccer championship.
Britt Davis scored Poland's other goal on an assist by Tara McLarney. The Bulldogs are 11-1-1 overall and 7-0 in the MAC.
Canfield's Erin Fening scored Canfield's (4-7-2, 3-4) goal on an assist by Grazia Sorice.
Canfield goal keeper Noelle Zalac made five saves, and Allie Kovalchick had two. Poland's Landry Yankle made nine saves.
Salem 2, Niles 2: NILES -- Amanda Pallante had a goal and an assist and Ashley King had a goal for Niles.
The Quakers came from a 2-0 deficit with goals by freshman Amanda Yeager and sophomore Lizzy Jesko. Amanda Jesko had an assist for Salem (0-9-3, 0-6-1 MAC).
Amanda Orwig had seven saves for Niles (4-5-4, 1-4-2). Matte DeJane had 14 saves for Salem.
Champion 6, Girard 0: GIRARD -- Christa Andamasaris had four goals for Champion (7-4).
Ashley Christie and Emily Mercer also scored goals. Beth Dawson had two assists and Kate Gintert, Brianne Kochunas and Jamie Granatta each had one assist. Liz Wood made four saves in the win.
Angela Diptrio had 12 saves, and Shannon Slezyak had 13 saves for Girard (5-8).
