LEETONIA -- The board of education will meet at 6 today to discuss the progress of the district's $17 million construction project and possible uses for the surrounding property.
The board will meet in the Orchard Hill School library.
Search: The board must also soon begin a search for a new schools superintendent. Board Vice President Doug Jones said, however, that won't be discussed at tonight's meeting.
Superintendent Lynn King died Friday of complications from heart surgery. He was 59.
King had been hospitalized nearly two months, and was released Wednesday to recuperate at home. Funeral services were Monday.
Jones said King, who was Leetonia schools superintendent since 1997, was looking forward to the June 2002 completion of the new school facilities.
"He was an outstanding man -- a great person," Jones said of King. "He put everything he had into this project. He treated that new school like it was his little kid."
Board Member Tom Eastek said Richard Selby, who was hired as interim when King became ill, will continue in the interim post for at least three to four months.
"We have to advertise, find someone we like, and then probably wait until they can be released from the contract of another school district," Eastek said. "This isn't the normal time of year to be searching for a superintendent."
