ICL/TAC VOLLEYBALL Behind Tomaino's play, Bluejays hand Mineral Ridge 1st league loss
South Range remained in contention with a win at Lowellville.
MINERAL RIDGE -- Jackson-Milton's Desiree Tomaino had eight points, 13 kills, nine blocks and seven digs as the Bluejays handed the Mineral Ridge High volleyball team its first Inter-County League loss.
Jessica Hemphill had six points, 11 kills, six blocks and seven digs and Erica Stamm had 31 assists and seven points for the Bluejays (10-6, 7-3).
Sara Gerberry scored 10 points with four aces for the Rams (12-5, 7-1). Tiffany Hack scored six points and made 18 kills.
South Range 15-15, Lowellville 8-5: Lowellville -- Crystal Schuler had six points, three aces, one dig and two kills for the Raiders.
Jodi James had four kills and Anna Wardele had 11 points, two aces, 10 assists and three kills for South Range (12-3, 7-2 ICL).
Thursday, South Range plays Mineral Ridge for first place.
Michelle Guidos had four points and two aces while Molly Macejko had three digs for Lowellville (2-13, 0-10).
Hubbard 15-15, Badger 0-0: HUBBARD -- Amanda Lingenfelter had 15 straight service points for Hubbard, which is rated fifth in this week's poll of Ohio's Division II teams.
Katy Jo Mroski had 10 kills, Amy Falhammer had four kills and Nicole Pringle had 10 assists for Hubbard (16-1).
Girard 15-15, Brookfield 4-0: GIRARD -- Katie Vesely had nine digs, five kills and had 10 passes for Girard, who tied the school record for wins.
Girard (14-4, 10-2 in the Trumbull Athletic Conference) has four games remaining.
Tealle Hunkus had 14 kills, eight points, five aces and seven blocks, Brittany Kay had eight points and Erin Stevens had 21 assists for the Indians.
Regina Deramo had two points and seven digs for Brookfield (8-7, 7-4). Juli Alter had four kills and one block, Korey Gibson had four assists and Jen Ford had seven digs in the loss.
Lakeview 15-15, Liberty 11-7: LIBERTY -- Lakeview's Megan Taylor had 10 assists and eight points.
Whitney Keyser had nine kills and Courtney Allaman had three blocks for Lakeview (10-4, 8-3 TAC).
For Liberty, Becki Bruno had seven points and three digs. Sarah Walters had four kills, nine spikes and 26 assists and Farah Rivello had three blocks for the Leopards (3-10, 2-8).
LaBrae 15-3-15, Newton Falls 7-15-8: NEWTON FALLS -- Ashley Alexander had nine points and Amanda Gordon had 15 kills and three blocks for LaBrae.
Amber Ditelbach had 30 assists for LaBrae (7-9, 4-8 TAC).
For Newton Falls, Ashley Shaver had five kills, two blocks and 10 assists. Laura Mason, Megan McElravy and Julie Roberts each had seven points for Newton Falls (3-11, 3-10).
