Sharon house fire
SHARON, Pa. -- Firefighters said a stove sitting on its power cord caused an electrical short circuit that caused a fire in a house at 456 Lorain St. around 1 p.m. Monday. Leaha Swartz, the tenant, told authorities she left home at 9:30 a.m. and returned shortly before 1 p.m. to find the house full of smoke. Firefighters said the fire appeared to have burned itself out. The flames spread only up the door frame near the stove and to a bag of trash left atop the stove. There was some heat damage to the kitchen, and the entire house suffered smoke damage, firefighters said.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Promises for Pets, a nonprofit animal welfare and educational organization serving Lawrence County, is looking for donations of usable dog houses that can be given to pets in need.
