Donate office, school gift money for disaster relief

As I went into a store today and saw the Christmas ornaments on display, it started me thinking how hard this time of year will be for so many people who would normally be celebrating different holiday traditions with loved ones and co-workers who have been lost to this terrible act of hate and intolerance.
What can we do to help, is a question I have heard over and over through out our country.
Just imagine if every business, big or small, all the organizations, school children and teachers would get together and instead of collecting money to buy the boss or teacher a gift, or the boss trying to buy an appropriate gift for the employees or the gift exchange -- with the $5 to $20 limit -- make that money a gift to their local Red Cross, designated for the National Disaster Fund. This would be helping the ones in need now and later.
As always, the Red Cross will be there to help wherever our brave men and women of the military are sent in the world to fight this war of hate against freedom and liberty.
At this season of giving, if we could all take this idea to heart, think of the millions across America who will truly be giving a gift that keeps on giving.
We can show the terrorists just how much and in how many ways we Americans will stand side by side and not stand for the acts of terror against the human race.
May God grant us the mercy, grace and courage now and what we will need to be strong in the future to fight for liberty.
For God has blessed America, let us give and love one another.

Have a mammogram, urges cancer survivor
EDITOR:
Because it is October and this month has been designated as breast cancer awareness month, I am writing not to warn, but to encourage women of all ages that a mammogram is one of the best tools we have to fight this cancer.
Being a 26-year survivor and having had two bouts of breast cancer, I am grateful my cancer was found early. I am a survivor and want women who are diagnosed to take advantage of the same support groups that helped me through my recoveries.
There is life beyond cancer. If a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, I want her to know that there is help and support. The Navigator Plus Program, Reach to Recovery and support groups like FOCUS are American Cancer Society programs that can help heal your body and your soul.
Early detection saves lives. Self-breast exams, clinical exams and mammograms are necessary. Get checked and do yourself and everyone you love a favor.

Leaving New York? Valley is open for new business
EDITOR:
I'm wondering if local realtors have let companies relocating out of New York know about the number of vacant buildings available in our area.
The notion may be farfetched as most are looking for space in close proximity to New York City. Yet it is a possibility that, perhaps, should not be overlooked.
