GIRLS BASKETBALL Campbell wins 32-31 on Toscano's 4-pointer

The Red Devils won their first game over Sebring.

CAMPBELL -- Sarah Toscano connected on a four-point play with 1 minute, 13 seconds remaining in the game to give Campbell Memorial a 32-31 victory over visiting Sebring Thursday night.
Toscano finished with a team-high eight points for Campbell (1-1) while Kim Brunie of Sebring (1-1) scored a game-high 10 points and added five steals.
"It was good to get this win, it gets a monkey off our backs," said Campbell coach John Hritz. "We did not play well but after losing a tough one to open the year [49-48 in overtime at Springfield]."
With 3:12 to play in the game Brunie connected on a free throw to give Sebring a 29-28 lead. Two free throws by Kaley Drennen increased the lead to 31-28 with just under two minutes to play.
Winning play: Toscano then connected on her 3-point shot from the right wing and hit the foul shot to give Campbell Memorial the lead for good at 32-31.
Neither team scored the rest of the way as Sebring was unable to take advantage of two missed 1-and-1 tries by Campbell in the closing seconds.
Campbell took a 6-4 first quarter lead despite making just 3-of-14 shots. Sebring attempted just four shots in the quarter.
The Trojans took their first lead, 9-8, with six minutes to play in the second quarter on a basket by Morgan Morris and held their biggest lead of the game (19-14) before a basket by Campbell's Amanda Quinn cut the margin to 19-16 at halftime.
After Drennen scored to open the second half, Campbell went on a six-point run to retake the lead at 22-21 on a putback by Shannon Pavlansky. The teams traded baskets and the Red Devils led 24-23 entering the last quarter.
Campbell made just 14-of-64 shots while Sebring was 12-of-34. The Devils had 11 turnovers to the Trojans' 20.
Campbell held a 42-33 edge in rebounds, as Shannon Pavlansky and Tierra McIntosh had 11 each. Brunie had 10 rebounds to pace Sebring.
