British retailer sellsmen's clothing chain
LONDON -- British retailer Marks & amp; Spencer is selling the venerable Brooks Bros. men's clothing chain for $225 million in cash to Connecticut-based Retail Brand Alliance, the owner of women's apparel seller Casual Corner.
The price is less than one-third of the $750 million Marks & amp; Spencer paid for Brooks Bros. back in 1988. Brooks Bros. operates about 160 stores in the United States and 75 in other countries. It had sales of about $650 million last year.
