Lordstown council racehinges on coin toss
WARREN -- The occupant of one seat on Lordstown Village Council will be determined by the toss of a coin.
On election night, incumbent Karen Jones appeared to beat challenger Mary Jane Wilson for the last of four seats up for grabs in the seven-way race. The vote was 548 for Jones, 543 for Wilson.
Wilson, however, pulled even when walk-in and absentee ballots were counted last week, said Norma Williams, director of the Trumbull County Board of Elections.
Each candidate won 551 votes, she said.
There was to be a flip of the coin today, followed by an automatic recount.
The post-election day tally of absentee and walk-in ballots also settled the Braceville Township trustee race, which was tied election day.
When the dust cleared, challenger Todd E. Brewster won the election with 408 votes, against incumbent Clyde R. Luther, who got 402.
The election-day total gave them each 400 votes.
Dairy Mart robbed
WARREN -- Police are investigating an aggravated robbery at Dairy Mart, 606 North Park Ave.
Reports state that a man entered the store around 11:30 p.m. Sunday and took cash at gunpoint.
Woman reports rape
WARREN -- A 36-year-old woman from Kent has told police that she was kidnapped and raped.
Police did not have any details this morning.
The woman was treated at a local hospital around 1 a.m. today.
Squadron to offer boat safety course
BAZETTA -- Mosquito Lake Power Squadron will be offering a boat safety course in February.
Anyone born after Jan. 1, 1982, must have completed the course before operating a boat with a motor larger than 10 horsepower.
Membership in the squadron is open to anyone who has completed the six-class course. Dates of the classes have not been determined.

They included a trip to the Cleveland Boat Show, a boat safety check and cruises.
The group also played host for the United States Power Squadron District 11 fall conference at Avalon Inn in Howland.
Assaulted with hammer
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Authorities are investigating an assault on two people at a Mud Bridge Road home in Little Beaver Township.
Police said a 33-year-old East Palestine man and a 20-year-old Enon Valley woman were hit with a hammer Friday.
Authorities say the suspect, a 29-year-old man who knows both victims, has not been arrested and no charges have been filed.
Superintendent search
LEETONIA -- The board of education will meet in special executive session at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Orchard Hill Elementary to interview superintendent candidates.
Treasurer Larry Syverson said the district has received 17 applications for the position.
Most candidates are from the Mahoning Valley and one applied from out of state, he said.
Superintendent Lynn King died Sept. 28 of complications after heart surgery.
