The National Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars is offering three one-year $25,000 postdoctoral research fellowships for cancer research. The fellowships are not renewable. Colleges and research institutions many nominate candidates. March of Dimes funding
AKRON -- Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron is one of three hospitals in the nation to receive part of $330,500 from the March of Dimes to assist families in coping with the birth of a child who needs neonatal intensive care. Akron Children's Hospital has a Level III 59-bed neonatal intensive care unit for sick and premature infants.
Terrorism preparedness
CLEVELAND -- Case Western Reserve University is offering training to health-care professionals on the prevention of and response to threats from biological and chemical terrorism. The course will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Ford Auditorium at the Allen Medical Library, Euclid Avenue and Adelbert Road. Cancer support
CANFIELD -- The Mahoning Valley American Cancer Society is offering Navigator Program training from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 4 at its office, 525 N. Broad St. Under the Navigator Program, cancer survivors who are one year past their treatment talk face-to-face or by telephone to cancer patients who are receiving treatment. Food workshop offered
CANFIELD -- Food: It's More Than Just Eating is a workshop to be offered by the Mahoning County office of Ohio State University Extension at 7 p.m. Thursday at 490 S. Broad St. The workshop will help child-care providers learn about eating behaviors and what to expect from infants, toddlers and preschoolers at lunch and snack times.
