Salem beats Marietta; loses to Northern
MARIETTA -- Sophomore Alyson Cotter picked up career highs of 22 points and eight rebounds as the Quakers defeated Marietta 50-41 Saturday in the consolation game of the Lady Tigers Tip-Off Basketball Classic .
Cotter and Abby Markovich were named to the all-tournament team.
Cotter had 40 points and 15 rebounds while Markovich picked up 29 points in the event, including 12 Saturday.
Salem (1-1) led 50-29 with less than four minutes to play.
Northern (N.C.) 63, Salem 56: After falling behind 51-43 late in the third, Salem rallied to close the gap to 53-50 with 7:01 left in Friday's game, but Northern outscored Salem 10-6 the rest of the way.
The 19 points by Markovich eclipsed her career best of 10 set last year against Howland.
Junior Tiffanie Heestand's 13 points also were a career high, surpassing her 12 against Jefferson Area last year. Her eight rebounds were also a career high.
Cotter added 18 points for the Quakers.
