Christmas play for kids
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The residents of Hundred Acre Wood must find Eeyore's tail by Christmas Eve in the children's play "Winnie-the-Pooh Christmas Tale," which will be performed by Alpha Psi Omega theater honor society at Westminster College. Performances will be at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday in the college's Beeghly Theater. Admission is free; donations will be accepted. Tribute to blues artist
CLEVELAND -- Get tickets beginning Monday for "A Tribute to Bessie Smith" concert, starring Linda Hopkins and Tracy Nelson, at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's fourth floor theater. The rock hall has chosen Smith as an American Music Masters honoree for her influence on blues music and other artists.
Hopkins portrayed Smith in the stage show "Jazz Train." Nelson was lead singer of the band Mother Earth. Tickets are $15 and available through Ticketmaster.
An educational conference on Smith's career and contributions will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 8, also in the fourth-floor theater. Admission to the conference is free with paid museum admission.
MTV show cast at club
AUSTINTOWN -- Three cast members from the MTV show "Jackass" will perform stunts in a variety show at 11 p.m. Wednesday at The Mill, the nightclub in Wedgewood Plaza, New and Raccoon roads. Doors will open at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 if bought in advance at Ianazone's Pizza in Austintown, Mike's Extreme Skate Park in Wedgewood Plaza or Doc's Discount Smokes in Warren. Tickets will be $15 at the door. VIP tickets at $25 each are also available.
Choir at White House
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The 24-member Slippery Rock University Chamber Singers will perform Dec. 12 at an open house for White House staff in Washington, D.C. The choir is the first group from Slippery Rock to be invited to perform at the White House. Choir director Paul Laprade said the singers will perform carols and traditional pieces for an hour. The choir may be stationed in the East Room, and a presidential appearance is possible, although officials won't confirm that for security reasons, Laprade said.
'Nutcracker' ballet
WARREN -- Guest artists Sara Stewart of Chicago, Eric Bourman of Kansas City and Yuri Safanouv of Latvia will perform in Great Lakes Festival Ballet's 14th annual production of "The Nutcracker" at 7 p.m. Dec. 14 and 15 and at 3 p.m. Dec. 16 in W.D. Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. N.W. Live music will be by Warren Philharmonic Orchestra, which is directed by Susan Davenny Wyner. Tickets are $12 to $25.
