Historical center sets festive mood

The Frick Art and Historical Center in Pittsburgh will be festively dressed for the season. Clayton, the 19th-century residence of the Frick family, will be decorated in lavish holiday attire.
The home of Henry Clay Frick, a Pittsburgh industrialist, often played host to other notable industrialist and celebrities. Visitors can see how the industrialists celebrated the holidays during the early 20th century.
This year the house will be filled with evergreen swagging, topiary trees and other festive greens woven with ribbons of teal, garnet and carnelian. The dining room will be set in fine china and crystal for an intimate family dinner.
Clayton tours are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $6 for children. While walk-ins are welcome, reservations are recommended as tours fill quickly. Tours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 6 p.m. The museum is closed Mondays. Call (412) 371-0600 for reservations.
Museum tours: Besides the residence, visitors may tour the Car and Carriage Museum and Frick Art Museum. The Cafe will be open during the season for lunch and dinner.
The house and museums are closed Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Clayton is also closed from Jan. 7-9 for its winter dressing.
