Hagan receives threat
YOUNGSTOWN -- City police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a threat made via computer against state Sen. Robert F. Hagan of Youngstown.
Capt. William Costas of the OSHP's Warren post said Hagan received a message on his home computer late Wednesday evening that said, "I am going to blow your house up." It was delivered on the AOL Instant Messenger system. No threats have been received since then, Costas said.
Judge James C. Evans of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court approved a request Friday for the patrol to obtain AOL Instant Messenger records to help with the investigation.
Menacing charge
VERNON -- A Bushnell-Campbell Road man is in Trumbull County Jail awaiting arraignment on a charge of aggravated menacing.
The 30-year-old surrendered peacefully after holding police and deputy sheriffs at bay at his residence with a loaded rifle for about an hour Friday morning.
Aggravated menacing is a fourth-degree felony.
The man allowed his wife and children to leave the apartment then threatened to shoot himself, authorities said.
Donations from Hillman
YOUNGSTOWN -- Pupils and staff of Hillman Middle School donated more than 1,728 canned goods and $142 to buy turkeys and potatoes for Thanksgiving baskets for the needy in the school community.
Holiday open house
CANFIELD -- The horticulture department of the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center will present its holiday open house from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 6. The school is at 7300 N. Palmyra Road.
A variety of live and artificial decorations will be available or can be made to order.
