GIRLS BASKETBALL Teams to watch

CANFIELD
Scheduled to start: Senior guard Erin Martin (19-point scoring average), senior forward Nicole Vlajkovich (12 points), senior Jessica Gifford, junior point guard Kelly Williams (six points), junior forward Jill Vertanen (five points). As a forward, Gifford will give the Cardinals a two-guard, three-forward look.
Off the bench: Juniors Tee Lisotto, Harmony Ramunno, Mara Boak and Erin Fening; sophomore Corey Hoffman.
Gone: Starters Julie Playforth and Jenny Miller, and substitute Megan Turocy.
The coach says: "We're a very athletic team that runs up and down the floor. We can shoot inside or outside and we'll be aggressive on defense and do a lot of pressing. We're not going to scare anybody with height, but we want the kids to put their experience to good use this year." -- Pat Pavlansky.
BOARDMAN
Scheduled to start: Senior guard Ashlee Russo (17.1 points, 4.1 assists); junior center Jen Hlebovy (8 points, 8 rebounds); sophomore point guard Brittany Durkin; sophomore forward Amber Bland (14 points, eight rebounds); senior forward Megan Murray.
Off the bench: Junior guard Bridget Beachy, junior guard Allison Davis, junior center Lauren Craig and sophomore forward Renee Farina.
Note: Durkin is Moschella's best defensive player, usually assigned to cover an opponent's best offensive player.
The coach says: "We always stress team ball, but Bland and Russo dominate on offense. Russo's a leader and Amber can do it all. She's improved her game, thanks to her dad working with her. Her ball-handling and shooting have improved tremendously. She jumps better than most boys and can shoot the 3-pointer, too." -- Ron Moschella.
