Crash victim begins labor

YOUNGSTOWN -- After speeding away from police and crashing into a fire hydrant in the 2200 block of Volney Road just before 4 a.m. today, Sarah L. LeFlore, 25, of St. Louis Avenue went into labor and had to be taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Health Center, police said.
Patrolmen Chris Bonacci and Brian Butler said they spotted LeFlore on Hillman Street, driving with her high-beam headlights on and failing to dim them for oncoming traffic. As the officers pursued LeFlore over several South Side streets, she sped up to elude them and lost control of her car.
Smoked crack: The officers discovered LeFlore was pregnant when they helped her from the crashed car and she lay on the ground. She told Bonacci that she had smoked crack cocaine for most of Tuesday, the officer said in his report.
The officers learned that LeFlore, whom they cited for fleeing and eluding and driving under suspension, was wanted on two outstanding felony warrants. A police hold has been put on her at the hospital for arrest when she is released.
The water department was called this morning to Volney Road to repair the broken hydrant.
