Board transfers funds
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown school board members voted to adopt a resolution authorizing the treasurer to transfer some $46,000 from the general fund to the designated activities funds for fiscal year 2001.
Board members also adopted a cashflow/spending plan Tuesday for fiscal year 2002.
Funds transferred to the designated activities funds "is standard every year," said Carolyn Funk, school board treasurer, and will be used to pay for uniforms, referees and other necessities for school athletic programs, excluding coaches' salaries.
The cashflow/spending plan adopted by the board sets up the current level of appropriations at $96,403,921, Funk said. It designates a pattern of expenditures that ensures adequate funds each month, she continued, and prevents the district from operating with a deficit.
Applicants sought
CAMPBELL -- The board of education is accepting applications for a board member position to fill the unexpired term of Ted Cougras, who resigned Monday due to a change in residency. Cougras' term runs through Dec. 31, 2003.
Applications should be sent no later than Dec. 3 to the president of the Campbell Board of Education, 280 Sixth St., Campbell 44405. Letters should include a brief resume and the applicant's motivation to serve on the board.
Lawsuit over accident
YOUNGSTOWN -- The family of a 19-year-old Canfield woman who was killed in a traffic accident two years ago is suing the driver of the car she was riding in. Thomas J. Biroschak Sr. of Arrel Road, Poland, is administrator of the estate of his daughter, Katherine M. Biroschak. He is seeking unspecified damages in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court from Robert J. Lynn, 25, of Lisbon.
Lynn was the driver of a car that crashed into a bridge abutment on Western Reserve Road, Green Township, in November 1999. Ms. Biroschak, his girlfriend, was riding in the passenger seat. In May 2000, he pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and tampering with evidence, and a month later was sentenced to four years in prison, which he is still serving.
Santa to travelto Liberty in firetruck
LIBERTY -- Santa Claus will arrive by firetruck at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the township administration building.
Pictures with Santa are $3 and carriage rides are $1 per person and $3 per family.
There will be a police department open house, music by Liberty High School Band members and refreshments.
Extra Hubbard patrols
HUBBARD -- Hubbard Township police have additional patrols through Saturday.
Officers will target speed, safety belt and child restrain violations.
A $12,376 grant from the Ohio Department of Public Safety is paying for the patrols.
Poinsettia sale
GIRARD -- St. Rose Home and School Association is selling Christmas poinsettias. Orders must be received before Monday at the school or church rectory.
All orders must be pre-paid. Pick-up date is Dec. 14 between 2:30 and 4 p.m. in the school gym, 60 E. Main St.
The plants cost from $5 to $17, depending on size and arrangement.
'Winterfest Dance'
GIRARD -- The first special needs "Winterfest Dance," sponsored by The Rayen School's Multiply Handicapped/Developmentally Handicapped special education units, will be 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 5 in Mahoning Country Club, 710 Liberty St.

HUBBARD -- Hubbard Township trustees have moved up their regular monthly meeting from Dec. 10 to Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. in the township administration building, 2600 Elmwood Drive Ext.
A public hearing on a zoning case will be conducted as scheduled Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m.
Commissioners OKCSEA workers pact
WARREN -- As expected, Trumbull County commissioners approved a labor agreement Tuesday, ending a four-week strike by workers at the Child Support Enforcement Agency.
The 55 workers, members of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees local 3808, returned to work Tuesday morning after union ratification of the pact Monday.
