Dog bites policewoman
AUSTINTOWN -- A dog bit a township police officer who was checking for intruders in the basement of a Country Green Drive home.
Patrolwoman Kathy Dina, 36, was treated last week at Austintown Ambulatory HealthCare Center for a bite on her right thumb. She returned to duty the next day.
Dina was called to the home at 11:20 p.m. Friday by the homeowner, who said she heard voices in her basement. The woman also said her dog Cody had stopped barking. Cody was in a cage in the basement, the woman said.
As Dina went down the basement stairs to investigate, however, Cody ran up the stairs, jumped and bit her.
Cited for lack of permit
AUSTINTOWN -- A Chaucer Way man was cited for not having a transient-vendor permit Monday after police found him going door-to-door on Selkirk Avenue offering to install gutters for a fee.
Police went to Selkirk after receiving reports about the man. They found that a 79-year-old woman had invited the man into her home to stay out of the rain. The woman told police that the man had asked to use her table to draw up a contract for the work.
A 78-year-old Woodleigh Lane woman also told police that she gave the man a $275 check Sunday for gutter installation. The man never did the work, however. The check was cashed Monday. Police are investigating.
