COLLEGES KSU gets funds for research

A total of $273,529 was released to state universities.

COLUMBUS -- The state will contribute money to establish a research facility at Kent State University for organic semiconductors.
Without comment, the state controlling board gave approval Monday to releasing $60,000 to the university to help establish the facility.
State officials said KSU will contribute at least $60,000 in capital costs; the National Science Foundation is contributing $200,000.
Kent State intends to create a facility for both research and education in the emerging field. The state money will be instrumental to obtaining equipment and other items, officials say.
Other schools: The state funding for Kent was part of $273,529 total released to state universities for research facilities. Ohio State University in Columbus received $150,000 for a project, and Ohio University in Athens received $63,529.
The controlling board also transferred $399,953 from the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Rootstown for its Collaborative Research Building Envelope project and released $21,190 to the architects.
The money is for renovations to a research facility.
The $21,190 will allow Domokur Robinson Edwards Architects to develop the drawings and specifications so the project can be open for bids.
