NEW CASTLE Light display will help fund park play area

Proceeds from Christmas and Thanksgiving will be donated to area hospitals.
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- This year's Cascade of Lights will help build a new children's play area that can be used year round in the Cascade Park picnic grove.
Donations made in honor of loved ones in the newly created Fantasy Forest display will pay for the work.
Cascade of Lights is a yearly drive-through Christmas light display in Cascade Park, Pa. Route 65 in New Castle.
The newly created Fantasy Forest will be a lighted display geared toward younger children.
The Cascade of Lights started in 2000 when a resident donated several Christmas light displays to the city. Mayor Timothy Fulkerson spearheaded the project and added several other displays.
New light displays are added each year with the proceeds earned at the previous year's display.
Details: Admission is $2 per person or $5 per carload. Children 2 and younger are admitted free.
The display begins at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving. It will be will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. each Friday, Saturday and Sunday through the end of the year. The display will also be open from 6 to 9 p.m. Christmas Day.
All proceeds from Thanksgiving and Christmas will be equally divided and given to Pittsburgh Children's Hospital and Tod Children's Hospital in Youngstown.
Pyrotecnico will provide a fireworks display at 6 p.m. Saturday. Pyrotecnico and Adelphia Cable are sponsoring this year's event.
