Messiah performance
NEW CASTLE -- The New Castle Music Club will present its 61st annual performance of Handel's "Messiah" at 3 p.m. Nov. 25 at the First Presbyterian Church, which is celebrating its 200th Anniversary.
Harry Cunningham of Butler, Pa., is again directing the group of more than 80 local singers. Cunningham is a music educator in the Moniteau Area School District.
Dr. Alan Moser of Austintown will take part. He is associate professor of voice, director of the opera program and coordinator of the voice area at Youngstown State University's Dana School of Music, and is the new president of the Youngstown Opera Guild.
Eucharistic day
CAMPBELL -- St. Elizabeth Church will have its annual Eucharistic day Sunday. There is an opening Mass at 10 a.m. and a closing service at 4 p.m. The Blessed Sacrament will remain on the altar throughout the afternoon for adoration.
EverGreen programs
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- EverGreen will present the program "A Healthier New You," with Ken and Miki Thomas at Villa Maria Community Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 15. The program will enable people to transform their lives by creating all-around spirit, mind and body fitness. The couple have researched the topic and for three years had their own television show in Honolulu. The cost is $35, and the registration deadline is Nov. 30.

Singers to perform
BOARDMAN -- Celebrant Singers, a Christian ministry from Visalia, Calf., will present a community concert at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 26 at St. Charles Borromeo Church. In the ministry's 24-year history, teams of singers have performed in all 50 states, Canada, and in more than 90 nations. This year, seven teams of singers will present over 1,400 concerts.
Protest set
YOUNGSTOWN -- Seven nuns and three other area residents are among those who are seeking the close of the training program formerly known as the School of the Americas at Fort Benning, Ga. The school is now called the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation.
The members of Sisters of the Humility of Mary based in Villa Maria, Pa., include Sisters Catherine Cassidy, Josie Chrosniak, Jeanne Marie Glorioso, Mary Hurley, Sue Klein, Ruthmary Powers, and Sheila Salmon.
Juanita Sherba and Sandra Marin, both of Canfield, and Regina Reynolds of Struthers, will be part of a group of 50 Northeast Ohioans to represent the InterReligious Task Force on Central America in Cleveland when citizens protest the event today and Sunday. The event marks the anniversary of the 1989 assassination of six Jesuit priests, their housekeeper and her 15-year old daughter in El Salvador. A United Nations Truth Commission report cited 19 of 26 officers responsible for the massacre were graduates of the school.
Praise concert
YOUNGSTOWN -- Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church will presents a concert of praise and worship by its choir, King's Dominion, at 6 p.m. today.
Anniversaries set
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Old Springfield United Church of Christ, 11957 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road, will celebrate 200 years of ministry, its 100th anniversary of the dedication of its sanctuary, and dedicate a new organ and carillon at 4 p.m. Nov. 25. The Service of Great Thanksgiving will feature Roy Bush as guest organist on the new Baldwin Prestige I organ with greetings from pastors and denominational executives at 4:30 p.m. A catered dinner by reservation will follow the service. Concert rehearsals
YOUNGSTOWN -- Tabernacle Baptist Church's evangelism ministry will have a Christmas concert at 5 p.m. Dec. 15. Rehearsals for youths 4 to 17 is at 12:30 p.m. today and Dec. 1, 8, and 15.
Story of Jesus told
YOUNGSTOWN -- A celebration of the Feast of Christ the King will be at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 25 in St. John's Episcopal Church. The congregation will sing the story of Jesus Christ as revealed through music of the Christian year. The celebration has its origins in a festival conceived by the church of the Moravians.
Pianist to perform
JOHNSTON -- Johnston Federated United Methodist Church will present pianist Todd Adam Scott at 10:15 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday. Scott, 22, is a member of Love Christian Center, Farrell, Pa., who at age 7 began studying the piano.
Annual musical set
WASHINGTONVILLE -- Robbins United Methodist Church will present its eighth annual Christmas musical, "Come, Let Us Worship the King," at 7 p.m. Dec. 2. An offering will be taken, and refreshments will follow the musical.
Christmas banquet
HUBBARD -- Grammy-nominated songwriter James Payne will appear at the Crossing Paths TV ministry Christmas banquet at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at Brentford House. Payne has ministered for 24 years after his faith helped him beat alcohol and drug addiction. Seats are free but people may sponsor a table of eight for $80. Advent growth program
WARREN -- Blessed Sacrament Parish will present Discovering Your Gifts, an Advent growth program, at 7 p.m. Nov. 27 and Dec. 4, 11, and 18. Participants will look at the gifts God has given them, their unique self, building on past events and the gifts of the community. The cost is $5 for the series or $2 per session. Thanksgiving service
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Midlothian Ministerium will have a community Thanksgiving service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Community Church. Dawud Abdullah, the imam of the Youngstown Islamic Center, will speak on "Being Thankful for American Diversity." Nonperishable food will be collected for Protestant Family Services.

WARREN -- The Warren Family Mission will have a Thanksgiving dinner from noon to 2:30 p.m. Thursday. State Sen. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-32, and Police Chief Albert J. Timko Jr. and Fire Chief James Nutt have been invited to speak.
