Charter offeredfor Marshall game
YOUNGSTOWN -- Pan Atlas Travel of Youngstown is offering a one-day charter motorcoach trip to the Youngstown State-Marshall football game Nov. 24 in Huntington, W. Va.
The cost of the trip is $60 per person and includes round-trip transportation and a box lunch. The trip doesn't include the game ticket which can be purchased from the YSU ticket office for $15. The motorcoach is scheduled to leave Youngstown at 11:30 a.m. and will return immediately following the game.

Aroche, Thomasnamed to team
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State football players Antulio Aroche and Mike Thomas were named to the 2001 Verizon CoSIDA Academic All-District IV football team.
Aroche, a senior defensive back, has a 3.33 grade-point average in Biology/Pre-Med while Thomas, from Canfield, has a 3.76 GPA in Finance. He is a senior linebacker.
Thomas is sixth on the team with 37 tackles, including 17 solo stops. Aroche has started all nine games and is fifth on the team with 51 total tackles.
Boardman's Amerosoftball recruit
YOUNGSTOWN -- Boardman High School senior Laura Amero is one of four players to sign national letters-of-intent to continue their athletic careers as members of the Youngstown State softball team.
Amero led Boardman to the 2000 Ohio Division I state championship, hitting .347. She was named first team All-Steel Valley Conference as a junior and as a sophomore and second team as a freshman.
YSU also signed Liz Holt of Galion, Codi Bise of Canal Winchester and Tiffany Patteson of Guelph, Ontario.
McAtee winstwo events
YOUNGSTOWN -- Junior Molly McAtee won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2 minutes, 6.53 seconds and the 100-freestyle (58.27) to lead the Youngstown State swimming and diving team to a 162-75 win over John Carroll.
Freshman Erin Carter won the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.39) and the individual medley (2:21.50) for YSU.
LOCAL
Drouhard to runin nationals
BEREA -- Austintown Fitch graduate and Baldwin-Wallace College junior Nicole Drouhard will be competing at the NCAA Div. III National Cross Country Championship at Augustana College Saturday.
Drouhard finished 14th with a time of 18 minutes, 45 seconds in the Regional Meet last weekend. The Yellow Jackets scored 83 points to take second in the regionals.
Game on TV
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Poland High School football game against Mentor Lake Catholic will be televised on Fox 17/62 tonight beginning at 11:35 p.m.
The station will also broadcast the Warren Harding-Cleveland St. Ignatius game Saturday at 10:30 p.m.
McGowan wins one
CANFIELD -- Rachel McGowan, a eighth-grade student at Canfield Middle School, lost a match and then won one at the Gamma Invitational tennis tournament in Florence, Kentucky.
McGowan has been playing USTA tennis for the past four years and travels to Chicago this month for another national tournament.

Nevin signs
SAN DIEGO -- Phil Nevin, who resurrected his career with the San Diego Padres, has agreed to a four-year contract extension worth approximately $34 million, the richest deal in club history.
Nevin was acquired as a backup catcher from Anaheim just before the 1999 season started, and became San Diego's starting third baseman that August.
Charges dismissed
SALT LAKE CITY -- Less than three months before the games begin, a judge dismissed all remaining charges in the bribery scandal that tainted Salt Lake City's Winter Olympics.
U.S. District Judge David Sam tossed out 10 fraud counts and a conspiracy charge that federal prosecutors had filed against Salt Lake City bid leaders Tom Welch and Dave Johnson.

MIAMI -- Miami Heat center Alonzo Mourning, struggling to recover from an illness that sidelined him last week, will miss at least three more games.
James could missremainder of season
NEW YORK -- Indianapolis Colts running back Edgerrin James could be sidelined for the rest of the season because of a left knee injury, a football source told The Associated Press.
The source, who spoke on the condition that he would not be identified, said James would likely be sidelined far beyond the 2-to-3 weeks that the team has cited in official statements.
