Three Valley projects to get funding
WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. James A. Traficant said he included language in the federal agriculture appropriations bill that will provide significant funding for three Mahoning Valley projects.
In a release, Traficant of Poland, D-17th, said the House agriculture appropriations subcommittee did not earmark money for the projects, but the language he included in the conference report is "tantamount to a soft earmark and will result in millions of dollars in funding for these projects."
The projects include a waste treatment upgrade in Columbiana, the development of sewer service in Kinsman Township and an extension of waterlines in Lake Milton and Craig Beach.
The local entities overseeing the projects are responsible for submitting applications to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for rural development funds. Traficant said the department is expected to grant funding for the projects.
