A recap of business handled Tuesday night.
BOARDMAN
UApproved the purchase of two copy machines from American Business Center Inc. in Boardman for $4,794 each. The road department and fire department will receive the machines.
URenewed the maintenance agreement for the police department's fingerprinting machine at a cost of $5,913.74.
LIBERTY
UApproved payment of $7,884.80 to MS Consultants of Youngstown, engineering consultants, for the Belmont Avenue pedestrian walkway project.
UApproved removal and disposal of debris at 304 E. Liberty St. Property owner is Walter Zysk. The $1,400 will be attached to Zysk's property tax bill, trustees said.
UFire Department wage negotiations will reopen soon. The firefighters have a three-year pact, but the contract calls for wage negotiations after the end of the pact's first year, which is Dec. 31.
UPolice Department negotiations also will begin soon as the current three-year contract expires Dec. 31.
UThe township fire chief declared that an emergency exists at Grimm's Trailer Park, 1182 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, after the chief, Trumbull County Health Department, and Trumbull County Building Department found numerous electrical code violations and unsafe conditions at the park. The board resolved that owner Pete Makis would hire a licensed, certified electrician by Nov. 27 to correct the violations. The work is to be completed by Jan. 3.
WEATHERSFIELD
UFive township firefighters received service award certificates by Fire Chief Randy Pugh. The firefighters are Thomas Lambert, Brian Pugh, assistant chief Ken Boring, William Claypoole and Matthew Pugh. They earned the Community Service Awards from the National Fire Safety Council for their work to educate students in the Weathersfield School district about fire prevention and how to react in a fire. Pugh noted donations from local businesses helped to fund the program and firemen spent a full week teaching classes at local schools in 45-minute sessions to an estimated 250 children.
UThe township's Web site, www.weathersfieldtwp.com, should be up and running at full capacity by the first week of December. The preliminary site can be viewed online now.
BEAVER
UPolice Chief Carl Frost told the trustees the Ohio Department of Transportation has agreed to lower the speed limit on several stretches of road that now have 55 mph speed limits. State Route 164 south of state Route 165 for approximately a third of a mile will be reduced to 40 mph; state Route 165 in the East Lewistown area from address number 2150 to 2740 will be reduced to 45 mph; state Route 165 from a half-mile west of state Route 164 will be reduced to 45 mph; and state Route 165 east of state Route 164 continuing east a half-mile past state Route 7 will be reduced to 40 mph.
UVoted to buy a 1984 refurbished 1,000-gallon-per-minute pumper fire truck from the Cardinal Joint Fire District for $15,000. They also voted to sell a 1978 1,000-gallon-per-minute pumper fire truck and a 1,000-gallon tanker to the Unity Township trustees for $5,000.
