Magazine willtake new tone
LOS ANGELES-- Ms. magazine will adopt an activist tone when it appears early next year under new ownership. The Feminist Majority Foundation, based in Los Angeles and headed by former National Organization for Women president Eleanor Smeal, is taking over the magazine and will publish its first issue in the spring. Smeal said the new Ms. will continue to chart literary and pop trends, but will also feature in-depth features on the plight of women internationally and give readers tools to turn information into action. She said the database and mailing lists of the foundation will also help to broaden the magazine's reach.
'60 Minutes'plans job cuts
NEW YORK -- One or two production staff members at the CBS news magazine "60 Minutes" may lose their jobs as part of restructuring related to the expense of covering the war on terrorism, the network said Monday. The proposed move has raised eyebrows because "60 Minutes," the original and still top-rated news magazine, has generally been considered impervious to job cuts. The Sunday night news magazine has more than 100 staff members.
