Hole in one
LAKE MILTON -- John Rudeieri of Austintown scored a hole-in-one at Old Dutch Mill Golf Course.
He aced the 155-yard No. 5 hole using a 6-iron. He was in a threesome that included Ed Prusak and Mike Kritzer.
Mount Unionteams to open
ALLIANCE -- The Mount Union College men's and women's basketball teams will open their seasons Friday.
The men's team, which was 15-10 last year, will play host to the Purple Raider Tip-Off Classic Friday and Saturday.
In Friday's games, Olivet (Mich.) meets Rose Hulman (Ind.) at 6 p.m., while Mount Union plays Pitt-Greensburg at 8 p.m. Saturday's title game is at 4 p.m. after the 2 p.m. consolation.
The Mount Union women, 13-13 last year, are billed in the Allegheny Invitational Friday and Saturday at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa.
On Friday, the Purple Raiders oppose Bethany at 5:30 p.m. while Allegheny meets Adrian at 7:30. Saturday's consolation is 1:30 p.m. followed by the final at 3:30.
Corbett leadsGrove City
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Adam Corbett, a senior inside linebacker for the Grove City College football team (2-7) from Champion High, will seek to pad his school career record for tackles when the Wolverines play host to the College of Wooster in a rare Friday game at 12:30 p.m.
The season-ending contest was rescheduled from Sept. 15 when it was postponed because of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11.
Corbett came up with nine tackles in Grove City's 16-10 loss to Alfred last Saturday, to give him 337 for his career which is a school record. He eclipsed Scott Fraser's previous mark of 330.
Wooster, coming off a 28-10 win over Hiram, holds a 6-1 advantage in the series with Grove City that began in 1988, winning the last six meetings.
Boardman icers lose
PITTSBURGH -- Tim Cerimele scored two goals and Josh Congelio had another but the Boardman High School hockey team lost to North Allegheny 7-3 Sunday.
Tyler Miller had two assists while Jeff Evans and Congelio each had one assist for Boardman, 2-5-1.
Chaney's Houseto attend Florida
VIENNA -- Chaney High's Evelyn House will attend the University of Florida on a gymnastics scholarship.
House has a 3.9 GPA at Chaney and practices at the Olympic Dreams Gymnastics Center in Vienna.

SIU coach leaveshospital today
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois football coach Jerry Kill has been cleared to leave the hospital, the school's athletic department said Monday.
Kill was admitted to the Memorial Hospital on Saturday evening after suffering a seizure. But medical tests came back normal, and he has been told he can go home today and resume a normal schedule.
The Salukis play at Western Kentucky Saturday.

NEW YORK -- Retired Florida pitcher Alex Fernandez and Los Angeles infielder Tim Bogar filed for free agency Monday, raising the total to 147 among the 158 players potentially eligible.

Agassi returnswith a win
SYDNEY, Australia -- It took Andre Agassi a little while to adjust to being a dad.
Agassi, 31, was a little rusty in his first match since his son Jaden Gil was born last month to his wife, Steffi Graf.
But it took him only two games to get his mind back on tennis in a 6-2, 6-4 win over Patrick Rafter during the opening night of the season-ending Tennis Masters Cup.

TORONTO -- Vyacheslav Fetisov shudders when he recalls trying to stop the scoring of Mike Gartner, Dale Hawerchuk and Jari Kurri.
As a defenseman, Fetisov always was trying to find a way to break up their rushes toward the net. But now, they are on the same side, as members of the Class of 2001 in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Joining the four players' induction was Craig Patrick, the general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who was voted into the hall in the builders category, the fourth member of his family to be honored.
