WARREN -- International Baccalaureate students from Harding High School will update the public on the condition of the local watershed.
An evening reception is planned for 6:15 p.m. Tuesday in the school media center.
Students have worked with faculty from Kent State University, Trumbull County Health Department and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency over the last two years to collect data on the Mahoning River.
Findings have already been presented at a KSU Trumbull stream symposium of area teachers and students.
Students will write articles for local publications and TV commercials as they work with Mahoning River Consortium's educational project.
The IB program gives students the opportunity to receive college credit early.
Fire damages house
WARREN -- A fire in a one-story residence at 2119 Saratoga St. S.W. caused damage to a back bedroom and living room, firefighters said.
The fire, reported at 4:45 a.m. Saturday, took 15 minutes to extinguish.
The cause is under investigation. Firefighters did not immediately know the owner.
Historical society
KINSMAN -- Henry and Kathy Venetta, owners of World War II Vehicle Museum and Learning Center in Hubbard, will speak to a meeting of the Kinsman Historical Society on Monday.
The meeting in the Kinsman Public Library is open to the public.
Panels seek members
HARTFORD -- Positions are available on the Hartford Township Zoning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Self-defense class
CANFIELD -- The city police department offers a women's self-defense class from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at the community building in Fair Park.
Personal Response Options and Tactically Effective Counter Techniques will be taught by Sgt. Bob Magnuson and officers Jim Schmidt and Jim Conrad.
There is no charge. An optional instruction book is $12.
The class is open to those 14 and older. Teens 14 to 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Class size is limited to 60.

Road will be closed
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Millburn Road in Springfield Township will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday while Pennsylvania Department of Transportation crews replace a pipe under the roadway just east of U.S. Route 19.
Detours will be posted.
