Services set for trooper killed on I-79

WAMPUM, Pa. -- Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Teolis Funeral Home in Ellwood City for Pennsylvania State Trooper Tod C. Kelly, 43, of R.D. 1, Box 1220A, Wampum, who was struck and killed by a sport utility vehicle Wednesday evening on I-79 near McKees Rocks while removing a large piece of metal from the highway.
Kelly was born Oct. 31, 1958, in Ellwood City, a son of Lloyd and Judy Reitz Kelly. He was an Eagle Scout, a 1976 graduate of Lincoln High School, and a 1985 graduate of the State Police Academy in Hershey. He worked for Babcock and Wilcox from 1977 to 1983, then was a state trooper with the Findley Barracks 16 years. He was a member of Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church and Fraternal Order of Police and enjoyed cooking and woodworking.
Besides his parents of Wayne Township, he leaves his wife, the former Darlene Barton, whom he married Oct. 29, 1977; a son, Joshua T., and a daughter, Heather Kelly, both at home; and a sister, Lori Kelly of Wampum.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and for one hour before the services Sunday at the funeral home. The FOP will conduct a memorial service at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
