CANFIELD -- Police collected an unidentified white powdery substance Wednesday evening at a Montridge Drive home. A man at the home called police at 5:05 p.m. Wednesday after finding the substance on his countertop near mail he had recently opened. He was not sure if the substance was on the counter before the mail was opened.
Pupils raise money
YOUNGSTOWN -- Pupils at Volney Rogers Junior High School raised $224 by making ribbons in home economics class and selling them to pupils for a quarter each. The money was sent to four New York City schools damaged in the attack on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11.
How travel has changed
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Robert P. Imperata will discuss the changes in leisure travel since Sept. 11 during the Lawrence County Tourist Promotion Agency's annual luncheon to be held at noon Wednesday at the Crane Room Grille, 3009 Wilmington Road. Sept. 11 fund-raiser
YOUNGSTOWN -- A "United We Stand Memorial Fund-raiser" will be from 1 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday at Donald Lockett VFW Post 6488, 2065 Coitsville-Hubbard Road. A $3 minimum donation per person will be given to an American Red Cross representative in attendance to assist those affected by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Local bands will perform, and refreshments will be served.
