Sergeant looks forwardto The Valley's Tribute
BOARDMAN -- Sgt. Ken Madeline of the Boardman police will be on the sidelines for The Valley's Tribute to American Heroes: A Red, White and Blue Parade. But that's not going to stop him from having a good time.
"We enjoy a good parade," said Madeline, who will be among the Boardman police officers and Mahoning County deputy sheriffs providing traffic control for the event.
Madeline said parades give the officers directing traffic a chance to interact with the local residents they are charged to protect.
"People see that we're not always in an adversarial position," he said.
Law enforcement officers from 26 departments will be represented in the parade, which will start at 10 a.m. on Market Street at Nisonger Drive in Boardman and end at the Boardman Township Administration Building. The parade is presented by The Vindicator and WFMJ TV 21, and sponsored by K-105, Y-103, Hot 101 and The DeBartolo Corp. -- Denise and John York.
Madeline said he feels local residents watching the parade will find that the law enforcement officers share their feelings about the Sept. 11 attacks.
"Everybody feels the same shock and camaraderie that the people are feeling," he said.
