For the second time, accepted the resignation of Commissioner Brian Shipley, who stepped aside after criticism of his personal use of a county credit card and cellular phone. They had accepted his resignation in a special session Oct. 31, but the Sharon Herald failed to publish a legal ad announcing that meeting 24 hours in advance, and commissioners' Solicitor Lewis McEwen recommended that the resignation be accepted once again to be safe, Brenneman said.
Agreed to accept a $75,000 preservation grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission for restoration work on Courtroom 1 at the courthouse.
Approved supplementing a reimbursement agreement from $45,000 to $84,000 for the design phase of a bridge on Lynnwood Drive in Hermitage. Bridge Engineer Mark Miller said the action allows the project to move forward. Construction is set for 2004, but he hopes to get the project moved up on the list because the bridge will not last until then, he said.
Approved mental retardation service contracts with Susan Squires of Sharon for respite services at $10 hourly for temporary respite and $50 per day for regular respite services, up to a maximum of $4,680; and a $37,083 addendum to a service contract with Whole Life Services Inc. of Sharon, also for mental retardation services, bringing the total to $75,807.
Appointed Douglas Riley, executive director of Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce, to the Mercer County Industrial Development Authority to fill an unexpired term, which expires Aug. 31, 2005.
Hired Gloria Virostick as a part-time dispatcher for 911 at minimum wage, and Sharlee Roqueplot as community liaison juvenile probation officer at $19,477, a grant-funded post that will be eliminated if the grant is not renewed; and Robert Beck Sr. as house arrest officer for the Intermediate Punishment Program. No salary was available.
