Valley TV stations lay off 4 employees

YOUNGSTOWN -- The local CBS and Fox affiliates have laid off three part-time workers and one full-time employee because of decreased advertising revenue.
Roland Adeszko, general manager of WKBN-TV Channel 27 and WYFX Channels 17/62, said two reporters, a director and an engineer were laid off Friday. Only the engineer worked full time.
Adeszko said he hoped to bring the employees back when advertising revenues improve. The stations, which are owned by Gocom Communications in North Carolina, employ about 100 people.
Adeszko said he made cuts in other places beside personnel first to avoid layoffs. He said he didn't want to say what was cut but it involved spending on capital improvements and general expenses.
He said advertising by local companies has been fair recently, but advertising by national companies has been down dramatically.
"This is happening all around the country," he said.
