SHARON Resident wants pit bulls to be removed

SHARON, Pa. -- Kim Greene fears the two large dogs that attacked and severely injured her Chihuahua may someday attack a person and she wants them to be removed from her neighborhood.
Greene, of 405 Grant St., said she had launched a petition-signing drive asking the city to take action to have the dogs, a pit bull and a pit bull-Labrador mix, removed from the city.
She said she has 103 signatures of West Hill area residents so far and plans to present the petition to Mayor Robert T. Price by the end of the week.
Attack: Greene said she let her Chihuahua out her door around 9:15 p.m. Oct. 28 to go to the bathroom and moments later heard him yelp.
She went outside to find the two dogs were attacking her dog on her property.
Greene said members of her family were able to chase the attackers away but the Chihuahua was so badly injured he had to be euthanized at a Hubbard animal clinic at a cost of $255.
Greene said she recognized the dogs as belonging to a woman who lives on Curtis Street, about a block from Greene's home, and said she knows the dogs have gotten out of their kennel before.
She said she thinks they also killed a cat.
Her concern now is that the dogs may eventually attack a person and she wants the city to act before that happens.
Greene said she has also contacted the Mercer County Humane Society and the Shenango Valley Animal Shelter to see what can be done about the dogs.
Cited: Police did cite the dogs' owner Oct. 29 for allowing them to run at large.
District Justice James McMahon said a hearing on the charge has been set for Nov. 19 in his office.
