YOUNGSTOWN Man faces various charges after traffic stop and chase

A drug arrest, armed robbery and shooting were on the police detail Sunday.
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 19-year-old West Side man faces a charge of felonious assault on a police officer after a traffic stop in which he dragged a city officer reaching into his car and then engaged police in a high-speed pursuit before jumping out of his moving car, police said.
Officer Robert Dimaiolo was not injured despite being dragged about 30 feet. He and another officer had stopped the West Heights resident on South Avenue near Interstate 680 shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday when the driver failed to use a turning signal.
After dragging Dimaiolo, the driver of the 1983 Chevrolet Monte Carlo fled onto a congested I-680 driving at speeds exceeding 75 mph. He jumped out of his car at the Mahoning Avenue exit and fled on foot before officers apprehended him.
He was treated for injuries at St. Elizabeth Health Center and transported to the Mahoning County Justice Center. He also faces charges of failure to comply with a police order and receiving stolen property after police discovered the plates on the car were stolen. He also was arrested on an outstanding charge of driving without a license.

UPolice arrested a 22-year-old South Side man on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and cocaine and marijuana drug abuse after a short police chase.
Officers attempted to pull over the Mary Street man at about 12:40 a.m. at Oak Hill and Myrtle avenues for driving a 1988 Lincoln Town Car with expired plates. He fled to Breaden Street, where he left the vehicle and ran. Police said that when they caught him, they found a loaded handgun, a small bag of suspected crack cocaine, a small bag of suspected marijuana and $693. Police said he was driving under suspension.
UA 24-year-old South Side woman said a drive-by shooter damaged her home in the 900 block of Ridge Avenue at about 1:30 a.m., police reports say. Police found three spent .40-caliber shell casings in front of the residence and eight bullet holes in a living room wall and window. They also confiscated a slug found on a basement bed by a man who lives at the home.
UThe owner of the Marathon gas station at 2547 Market St. reported that a 22-year-old clerk was robbed at knife point shortly after noon by two men in their early 20s who had threatened to kill her. The men had been at the station three times to make purchases.
The third time, they lured the clerk outside with a complaint of a faulty newspaper box. Police said the robbers followed her back into an office area, held a small knife or box cutter to her neck, and ordered her to open a cash register. They took an unspecified amount of money.
