The restaurant manager told police that the robber, who was wearing dark clothes and either a ski mask or a scarf over his face, approached a delivery man outside the restaurant at about 3:15 a.m. The robber was carrying a gray semiautomatic pistol.
The robber ordered the delivery man back inside the restaurant. He then told the manager and the delivery man to get on the floor and took a bank bag with the money, police said.
Theft from South Side
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police are investigating the theft of antique furniture and lawn-care equipment from the South Side home of an 82-year-old woman who is in a nursing home.
The woman, who once worked in the police department's record room, has a disability and has not been to the East Judson Avenue home in two months, said a woman in charge of the victim's estate. A man who lives down the street was entrusted to keep an eye on the house.
He told police he had not been to the house in at least 10 days when he discovered screen doors he had left unlocked had been locked, police reports show.
He went in about 7:30 p.m. Saturday and found many of the woman's belongings gone.
Brawl at Choffin
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Mahoning County Sheriff's Department investigation shows that a brawl at Choffin Career Center stemmed from an incident at the center's Halloween party.
The fight at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in front of the downtown facility involved about 15 to 20 students and was broken up when deputies used pepper spray and physical force. Youngstown police arrived later to assist. Four male students were suspended for five days.
Deputies said the fight stemmed from students' at the party chanting "North Side," "West Side," "East Side" and "South Side" as if in competition.
After the Choffin fight, one of the suspended students was removed from the property of The Rayen School on the North Side, where officials said he was trying to cause trouble as a spillover from the Choffin brawl.
